Some recorded samples of Tim's hair brained style of playing guitar and bass.
Many of these samples are partial
projects or unfinished projects. The odd clam and brain fart are
left in because these were never meant to be anything to share with other folks.
When there are some samples
that are finished I will indicate that.
The reason this page exists is to make it easier to make musical connections
in my new home of Kelowna. Kind of an on-line
meet and greet you might say.
I am just looking for compatible like minded players who might want to jam, put some recording together or work on a set list for playing out.
My email is: tim@timtone.com or tdiebert@okanagan.bc.ca

This was a bit of noodling that I
narrowed down to a short 'phrase'. I liked this bit and while in the middle
of doing some other tunes with Gary Gilbert*.
I burned this short section to a disc for Gary to think about
and maybe try and write something around it.
The fun part is Gary liked the bit too and was able to write something he thought
might be suitable...though in an entirely different key. I really liked what
Gary came up with and thought to try and mold them together. The end result
is kind of weird but fun. My original phrase opens the tune with this kind of
happy Major feel with layers of guitar and two slide guitars ...then slams down
into this minor dark-ish first verse: "When you die...."
The route goes back to the slide
phrase as a chorus. After the bridge and a last verse the tune really picks
up and rocks out to the end.
I produced everything on this tune. Drum loops, bass all guitars and recorded
Gary's vox. Although it is not very polished in this recording, it was mastered
by a pro later on and included on one of Gary's albums. I like this tune, it
always makes me happy when I listen to it.
The tune is a collaboration between
my son Zach and myself. Zach builds his music entirely CG through samples and
software.
It is not nearly as simple as it sounds. In it's basic form, yes, anyone can
cobble together something. Zach has been playing around with this stuff since
he was a wee fella. He is quite advanced with this process and scratch creates
every single sound heard in his music. Basically he made the tune and I just
noodled some guitar over top of it. Oddly enough, I actually did my minor part
in one take. A rare occasion to be sure.
Another tune with Gary. I did everything but sing and write the lyrics. This is basically done but not mastered etc.
An instrumental I did for one of Gary's albums. I did everything on this one except this version was edited and mastered by the pro that did the whole album. Sorry, I forget his name.
This is one of the first tunes I
stitched together once I got the basics of the computer recording deal sorted.
A raw tune and instrumental. There is a simple drum track that remains the same
through the entire tune, add a single rhythm guitar and some single note stuff
over the top.
I am not sure how, but this tune has always reminded me of the theme music for
that old TV show Hill street Blues.
This piece was a project by the guy who showed me how to sort out computer recording software. Jack Savitskoff. Jack is a talented guitarplayer , producer and music guy. He recorded and produced most of Gary's first album. On this tune I was kind of his way of showing me what could be done with a computer and some interesting software. He recorded some random noodling I was doing.....actually when I thought he was just monkeying around with the comp. Then we laid a simple rhythm track and did several recorded guitar and bass tracks. He then edited all the nonsense into this....tune. I played most of what you hear. Jack did the drums and the reverse guitar outro.
Another rock/blues tune done for one of Gary's records. I did most of the guitars, Jack produced and Greg Harasimow played bass.
Really, this is having fun with some percussion samples. The guitar parts were one take complete with some missed notes.....but I left it all because ...well, who cares? I do this stuff to entertain myself mostly. Listen right to the end, some funny stuff in there.
I had a bunch of recorded ideas and
part projects in a folder so I edited them into smaller usable snippets and
sewed them all together into one long mp3.
The names of these bits in order are: Intro Phrase----Boomcheeze----Lullabye----XXX----Nonsence----So
Decrepid----Mud Jazz---- F# Blues Noodle----Slide Grunt----Carlos Allman----At
Play6.
...and one very short tune I was not able to add to the Collage. At PLay4
Gary Gilbert*:
The originator and frontman for 10 piece RnB band Dr. Fun and The Nightcrawlers.
As much as Gary gigs with the Crawlers he still needs more. He does a lot of writing and has taken to working with a bunch of friends that like to produce and record. He has completed two 'solo' albums to date. Gary can be reached at funologist@hotmail.com
